About airport

Balmaceda Teniente Vidal Airport, located in Balmaceda, close to the Chilean-Argentine border, is the main access by air to Coyhaique and the Aysen Region, with passengers traveling all year round. The flight from Santiago to Balmaceda takes approximately 3 hours. There is no official website.

What to do? Balmaceda?

For a SMART experience you should not miss the Cerro Castillo national reserve crossed by the Carretera Austral which you must travel in order to discover the true Chilean Patagonia. Here you can cross the fjords in ferries. Near the tranquility of Balmaceda you can walk to other very natural tourist attractions of the south, such as Lake Blanco, El Paso Huemules, Simpson Valley, Villa Frei, and the famous Lake General Carrera which provides an incredible view of the marble chapels that when exposed to the sun allows you to see the turquoise waters of the lake.

When to go Balmaceda?

To get the most out of your trip to BALMACEDA, we recommend visiting it in summer, between the months of October and March, as it is the time when tours and ecotourism and/or adventure tourism start. You can enjoy the most common activities offered by this destination, such as rafting, Stand up Puddle, trekking, among many others. During winter and due to bad weather, hotels operate mainly as restaurants.
